YIIK: A Postmodern Disaster

Posted by KLR-Rio - 1 month ago

So, YIIK came out this week, and it's already nominated Worst Game of the Year.

I mean, there's just so much wrong with the game. So much.

First, there's the main character, Alex. He's constantly an asshole, telling one of the allies that he doesn't care about his dead sister (even having the other party members yell at him for it), he constantly monologues all the time, bringing needles topics into focus, and the guy literally had a internal breakdown just because his mom told him to get a job. The other characters are fine, but just... fuck that guy.

The gameplay is waaaaay too long. It's basically the gameplay of Sonic Chronicles, and that game was hella horrible. You have to input a whole bunch of buttons just to do one attack. Every battle is about 20 minutes long. I could watch an entire cartoon episode by the time I'm done.

The plot is somewhat good, I'll give it that. However, a post on Twitter called out the dev team, for fictionalizing a IRL woman's death into their game. It's when Semi Pak, one of the main characters, gets abducted by "aliens." I mean, yeah, using IRL stuff to fuel creepypastas I get, but the game practicaly desenticized it with its in-game comments.

The in-game models have a different artstyle from the character portraits. They look like two different people created them. The animations are super janky, too, but for some reason, it gets smoother when Alex climbs up a ladder???

All in all, this game is pretty horrible. If you wanna use $20 wisely, buy Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.
